Will

A week and a half after the last attack, Celeste was officially moved into our wing of the house.

Matéo joined me on the loveseat, handing me a cup of tea.

“She’s excited to learn,” Matéo murmured to me.

“Where do we start, though? She’s years behind in understanding magic. Darkness is complex. Other than spirit, it’s the most complicated to deal with. Not having time to develop her skills in her childhood will stop her from….” I hadn’t had the time to organize any of my thoughts on being her teacher.

“Stop her from what, Will? If anything, we should be the ones giving her encouragement. Change your mindset. Let’s focus on making sure she doesn’t sound like an idiot regarding how magic works and the politics of the elementals. Once her magic is out… then all of our problems will be fixed.” Matéo told me with determination.

“Will has agreed to take over your lessons from here on out, and Matéo will try to draw out your magic and then teach you how to use it.” Rafe finally got to the point.

“Thank you for teaching me, Rafe.” Celeste turned around to face us. “I’m ready to begin, Will.”

Well, fuck me sideways. This was going to be the hardest lesson I’d ever taught.

Hot damn, Matéo was right. Celeste’s voice was enough to get me fucking hard. She’s beautiful when she doesn’t even try. Even now, I saw she wore an oversized black sweater. Taking a closer look, I could see it was Emeric’s. The clothing stealing had already begun. I had no idea I could even be attached to a girl.

“Please retake your seat Celeste; let’s get started.” Matéo and I took seats across the formal dining room table.

“Alright, Celeste, let’s start and see where your knowledge is at.” I pulled out a test that I put together last night.

Celeste took it from me and started flipping through the pages. No one had told me anything about her schooling or what Victoria taught her. I went into this thinking Celeste was a completely blank slate.

“Do I have a time limit?” A time limit?

“No, of course not. Take all the time you want.” I watched as she picked up her pencil and marked the answers.

As she worked her way through each of the pages, Celeste handed us each page. They weren’t bound together and were out of order. The test was supposed to get progressively harder. Matéo and I stared in shock as she answered each question correctly, even the short and long essay questions.

“Okay. What the fuck. How long have you been studying elemental culture and magic?” I leaned forward finding myself craving for the answer.

“The first time was a few days after arriving in Italy.” I looked into her eyes, looking for the lie.

“You’re more than a fast learner.” Matéo whistled. “I couldn’t have answered these questions better, even the short response, and I was raised by the people who wrote these questions. Celeste, I’ve studied this magic for eighteen years… This was all information that I don’t think I could teach in ten years, let alone a year.
